logoNorth America’s 5th Largest market is looking for a Program Director.

But first our sell job...

You’ll actually have a full live staff and get to do radio like you always heard it should be or ideally remember first hand. We’re all about winning WITH all the resources to do it. Stock prices don’t drive us. Incredible radio stations that run #1 or #2 do.

TorontoThe city you’ll call home is always rated within the Top 5 in the world for quality of life. It has few peers. Its International Film and Caribana festivals are legendary as the biggest and the best on the planet. Its theatres and restaurants and sports and schools are as good as it gets. And for variety sake this is the most diverse city in the world. Walking down the street is like being in a corridor of the U.N. It’s exciting, incredible, clean and safe.

For your tools to do the job you’ll want for pretty much nothing. We all know the horror stories of radio since consolidation. Those stories don’t apply here.

The gig:  Programming 99.9 MIX FM – Toronto

The company: Astral Media - Canada's largest radio company.

The pay, benefits, and working environment are exceptional.

This is a once in a lifetime job that can lead to wherever your goals want to go.

What do we want from you in exchange for this radio nirvana?
Well, frankly a lot.

1.    You have a winning track record in multiple places and multiple situations. Ideally in different formats. We want someone who can think and fashion solutions for the specific situation they’re in.

2.    You’ve been a jock somewhere in you career for at least 4 years. The bigger the market the better. We want a PD who’s seen bad PD’s and good PD’s and knows the difference first hand.

3.    You’re savvy with research, can ask the needed questions, and think strategically to get the answers that help.

4.
Ideally you’ve hired and nurtured at least one successful morning show from scratch. If it’s more than one, we’re really excited.

5.    You know how to build music clocks and strategies to fit your research.

6.    You must know some music scheduling system inside and out. We use Musicmaster so that would be a plus. But it’s the concepts of how they work that’s important. There’s a full time MD but we want to know you can and do control clocks, music rotations etc. even though someone else handles this day to day.

7. You have proven success in utilizing on-line to extend the brand and reach of a station.

8. You know how to take advantage of new media opportunities to help generate ratings and new revenue opportunities.

9.    You must like and fit the lifestyle of contemporary music. We’re a mass appeal station looking for mass appeal music choices. We believe it’d be a disaster if you don’t deep down like the music your station is playing.

10
.    You’re someone who believes in and loves doing airchecks, small talks, brainstorming, and simply being close to your talent. You believe your goal with talent is to teach, nurture, coach, and ultimately help (not force) them to become better than they ever thought they could be.

11.    You treat everyone with respect and earn your staff’s trust by example.

12.    You have a history and track record of execution of the details of being a great PD. You not only know and can teach how to do the main elements of everyone’s job, you make sure that everyone else ultimately does too and is executing it properly.

13.    You get ‘Brands’. They’re not just names but the sum of all that goes into them.

14.
Building a magical radio station almost consumes you. You LOVE radio and what you can do with one under your wing. Having hundreds of thousands of listeners react to your ideas and hard work totally puts you over the top.

15.
You love to write your own station imaging liners, ID’s, splitters, promos, and are good at it. We believe there are two shows on every station at one time. One is the jock’s live, and the other is the PD’s through the production. Both need to be entertaining and compelling in their own right.

16.
A very famous PD once said, “A radio station’s personality comes from its PD. Their personality ultimately becomes the station’s. One way or another it’ll end up permeating everything.”  (see last number)

17.    When we call former jocks, GM’s, and GSM’s that you’ve worked with---they’re going to say they miss working with you.

18.    You’ll be able to give us examples of most of the above for yourself. The more the better.

19.    Lastly, this is a position for experience. We’re sure there’s lots of you out there just out of broadcast college or somewhere in market #93 who believe you can change the world and vault us to #1 in a few months. God love you, some day your enthusiasm and gained knowledge may be able to do just that. When that day actually comes, and you’ll feel it when it does, send us your resume then. (We have a lot of stations)

Dream LogoWhew. Yeah, we know it’s a lot and we don’t expect everyone to have all of the above. But you can see what we’re after. Someone who really knows how to program. Not just install copied hot clocks and stock liners with no clue why they were invented in the first place. Someone who can take great resources and a talented full staff and do wild stuff with. Stuff that other PD’s will envy you for and that an audience will gravitate to you for.

So, here’s the usual. Send your resume, references, and whatever else you think will help get our attention and single you out for round two to:
